Compliance & Testing
BBX has been extensively tested at RAF Spadeadam and Cambridge Fire Research in the UK, meeting extensive Home Office compliance standards across its Blast, Ballistic, Breach/Attack and Fire protective characteristics.
Compliance & Testing
Ballistic
Ballistic tests were carried out at D J Goode & Associates, the leading firm of consulting & test engineers, specialising in the provision of counterterrorism advice, security design, blast and ballistic engineering, weapons effects on structures and hostile vehicle migration.
- BS EN 1522:1999; Windows, Doors, Shutters and Blinds – Bullet Resistance – Requirements and Classification.
- BS EN 1523:1999; Windows, Doors, Shutters and Blinds – Bullet Resistance – Test Method
- Achieved BR6 and FB6 with the 140mm block
- Achieved BR7 and FB7 with the 215mm block.
BBX blocks have an extensive range of additional ballistic accreditation, please contact our team for further information.
Blast
When tested to ISO 16933 and Home Office Test Standard, ‘Explosive Resistant Walls and Doors’ against a blast of 100kg TNT equivalent to simulate a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) the product achieved the following ratings:
- 100mm block achieved C25 & EXV19 (19 metre stand-off)
- 215mm block achieved C15 & EXV12 (12 metre stand-off)
The BBX Blast migration systems exceeded the above Home Office standards for C25 and C15 for explosive resistant walls and doors, whilst obtaining a hazard rating of B against a VBIED. A hazard rating of A-C means that the surface of the wall after the blast did not spall. In real terms, this means protection of personnel and equipment.

Breach
BBX has been tested against security breach threats. The test was carried out by professional breach testing personnel, following strict testing protocol. Conditions consisted of a 10-minute attack over a half-hour period, using tools such as: Fire axe, Saw, 12v Grinder, 12v Jigsaw, Sledgehammer and Tactical Hooligan Tool.
The test carried out was to determine whether a person could breach the BBX defence wall by producing a hole greater than 40cm x 30cm.
The BBX defence wall was not breached, and a hole greater than the above dimensions could not be achieved.
Fire
BBX demonstrates fire resistance of 132min/100mm without failure.
The test took place at Cambridge Fire Research in accordance with BS EN 1364-1: 2915
